Fourth of July 2025

Celebrate Independence Day with Close Up in D.C. and Philadelphia!

Shadow

Join the world-famous July 4th celebration in Washington, D.C.!

Every Fourth of July, Americans nationwide gather for barbecues, picnics, and parades to celebrate the blessings of democracy. But this year, middle school students have a unique opportunity to spend Independence Day with Close Up and experience our country’s most important monuments, museums, and festivities in both the birthplace and the capital of U.S. government.

This six-day, five-night program gives middle school students the chance to:

  • Attend the Fourth of July parade, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and the fireworks on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.;
  • Visit Arlington National Cemetery and other iconic memorials across the city;
  • Take a day trip to Philadelphia to explore Independence Hall, the National Constitution Center, and the rest of the historic district;
  • Participate in workshops about current issues and community action with peers from across the country; and
  • Experience one of Washington’s most exciting weeks in a safe, educational, all-inclusive way!
