Election Week Program

Experience Washington, DC, during one of the most exciting, consequential times for our country!

Watch our nation’s future unfold in the heart of DC!

An election week spent with Close Up is an unforgettable time, taking students behind the scenes in Washington, DC, to learn about the electoral process and experience the suspense of Election Day in person. During our six-day, five-night Election Week Program, high school students take part in seminars, events, and study visits to historical sites to help them fully understand their role in our democracy.

Guided by our highly trained program instructors, students have the opportunity to:

  • Visit monuments, memorials, and world-renowned Smithsonian museums where history and culture come alive in Washington D.C.;
  • Engage in meaningful discussions with peers from around the country and debate the most pressing issues facing our nation in a Mock Congress;
  • Meet with their congressional delegation on Capitol Hill;
  • Attend an exclusive election seminar with prominent DC insiders to discuss issues such as gerrymandering, youth voting, and campaign finance; and
  • Enjoy a special dinner and election event as the returns come in!
