Stanford & Close Up PD Institute Application


  • Navigating Polarization, Deliberation, and Civil Discourse Professional Development Institute  (July 19-28, 2021)
    In this eight-day Institute, co-led by Stanford and Close Up faculty, educators will gain the skills needed to improve the quality of deliberations and inquiries in their classrooms, increase their students’ civic and political understanding and sophistication, and lead the charge for civic education in their schools and districts.

    Application Process:
    Before you get started, here is an overview of what to expect in this application. You will be asked to submit the following:

    2. School Demographics
    3. Three short questions regarding your teaching philosophy and professional goals
    4. Letter of Support

    Once your application is submitted, you will receive an email confirmation. Admission is based on a competitive application process. Candidates selected for the course will be notified by May 15, 2021. Please contact programsupport@closeup.org with any questions.

    Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a Letter of Support from a principal or supervisor. Letters of Support should:

    - Convey the supervisor’s approval for attendance;
    - Highlight the applicant’s strengths and contributions to the school; and
    - Confirm a need for this type of training in your school or district.

    You will be provided with a link to share with your recommender once you submit your application. Participation in a Close Up program requires parent or guardian approval for any participants under 18 years of age.
