Learn to become a leader in your community!

During this six-day/five-night program, native youth develop the skills and attitudes to become active citizens in their tribes and communities. While exploring Washington, DC, students observe government officials and tribal leaders in action as they advocate for issues impacting Indian Country.

With Close Up, students have the opportunity to:

  • Engage in workshops with students from different tribal communities and discuss the most pressing issues facing those communities;
  • Examine the historical relationship between tribes and the U.S. government;
  • Explore current issues impacting Indian Country; and
  • Create Tribal Action Initiatives to address their concerns and present them to tribal leaders, political experts, and policymakers.

Participation in a Close Up program requires parent or guardian approval for any participant under 18 years of age. Learn how we keep all students safe, secure, and supervised on every program.
