New Americans High School Program

Through hands-on learning experiences, recently immigrated and migrant students gain the skills and confidence to be active in their communities.

Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in the nation’s capital!

Close Up’s New Americans High School Program is built on the belief that textbooks and lectures alone are not enough to help students understand responsible citizenship. Our experiential, interactive approach allows migrant and recently immigrated students to get involved and voice their opinions on issues that matter to them. After this six-day/five-night program in Washington, DC, students return home empowered and ready to make a difference in their community.

With Close Up, students have the opportunity to:

  • Create personal connections to the people, places, and events that make this country unique;
  • Experience U.S. history through our nation’s most significant documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights;
  • Discuss the role of the executive branch and experience the thrill of a presidential campaign through a Mock Election; and
  • Engage in discussions about the current issues they are most passionate about.
