President's First Week Program

Examine the president’s plan for the first 100 days in office in the heart of our nation’s capital!

Consider the future of our country as the president takes office!

Once the pomp and circumstance of the inauguration winds down, Washington settles in and gets down to business. Don’t miss this exciting time as the president and a new Congress begin their work!

During Close Up Foundation’s six-day, five-night President’s First Week Program, students examine the contributions of past presidents, assess the president’s agenda, and discuss the evolving roles of Congress and the presidency.  With the help of our highly trained program instructors, students also consider how the people and events represented in DC’s memorials impact their lives today.

The President’s First Week Program gives students the opportunity to:

  • Experience world-renowned Smithsonian museums where history, art, and culture come alive;
  • Engage in meaningful discussions with peers from around the country and debate the most pressing issues facing our nation in a Mock Congress;
  • Meet with their congressional delegation on Capitol Hill;
  • Visit George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon to learn about his legacy; and
  • Hear from experts on the most pressing policy issues facing our nation!
